Hi all,
I’d like to introduce myself to everyone in Eden. My name is James Mart, and I’m from the Philadelphia area, in PA, USA.
Background
I worked as a C++ software engineer and team lead at a large semiconductor equipment manufacturer from 2015 - 2021. On the side during that time (2015 - 2018), I also co-founded a fintech company. For several reasons, our startup failed, but it taught me a lot about the difficulty in developing technology in the traditional financial and regulatory environment. I also got married in 2016 to a woman named Dana, and a few months ago we just got a dog (Poodle & Rottweiler mix ) named Koda.
EOSIO Involvement
Pursuing fintech innovation led me to discover Ethereum in early 2017, and EOSIO shortly thereafter. I’ve been following EOSIO since its announcement, and started experimenting with EOS development in 2018. I’ve met many community members at meetups in NY, Philly, DC, and Malta. I worked as a full stack dev with Peter Keay, Zack Gall, and Evan Schindler at Dappiness in 2019, I’ve been a co-host with Zack on Everything EOS, and a panelist on EOS Radio with Ashe Oro and Zane Whitener. My latest and most exciting endeavor has been to leave my full-time job to pursue a dream to develop decentralization infrastructure full-time. Currently that’s taking the form of working on the smart contracts for the EOS Power Network.
Interests
I am interested in fundamental economics, first-principles thinking, math, education, and decentralization. I am not very interested in chasing crypto investments / gains / yield. I am fairly active with relaying my thoughts on Twitter, less active in relaying long-form thoughts on Medium. I’m excited about making markets more efficient so future humans can coordinate and communicate values more effectively.
Eden intro questions
Tell us how you found out about eden?
- I learned of Eden when Dan originally announced the idea.
What is it about the community’s vision/values/ideas that attracted you?
- I read More Equal Animals within a couple months of its publication. I find the ideas in that book to be compelling, and a great start in designing future consensus mechanisms which can scale to coordinate future fractal societies. So I’m interested in the community’s vision & values to the extent they’re aligned with the fractal governance experiment.
Why do you want to become a member?
- I want to participate in pioneering novel forms of decentralized governance, and at the moment Eden appears to me to be among the most exciting innovations in the space. Why now though? Honestly it’s to help the Eden treasury out by joining before the first election and gather another 200 EOS in exchange for my participation. I would likely have procrastinated longer if it weren’t for that offer from the EOS Foundation.
In what way do you see yourself contributing to the community?
- Right now, my time is dedicated to the EOS Power Network project, and I have very limited bandwidth outside of that. So my direct contributions to the community may only take the form of participating in conversations and offering my opinion when relevant. I do, though, consider the EOS Power Network to be a form of indirect contribution to the cause, because I believe it’s an important piece of decentralized infrastructure which is necessary for the future of DeFi. It may even become directly relevant as a mechanism to facilitate the yearly Eden dues.
If you were to become an elected Eden Genesis representative with a budget, how would you spend that budget?
- I’m not interested in becoming a high level representative right now, but if I was able to get any funding from the Eden treasury then I would use it to help my wife pay our bills. Unless I can start making money or get support from Eden/Pomelo, I have a limited amount of time I can spend pursuing these dreams before I will have to return to the traditional workforce for a paycheck.

Thanks, looking forward to meeting more of you and seeing you all again someday soon,
