[CALL FOR PARTICIPATION] Join EdenOS Alpha Test on May 13th

EdenOS Alpha Test

Before the roll out of EdenOS, The EdenOS team is planning an alpha test phase of the political playoffs election process. We’re going to collect initial feedback to help us with the development of EdenOS. We’re building exciting tools to help automate the processes required to build a vibrant and engaged Eden community. Ensuring a smooth election process is a critical element and we want to do our best to get it right.

The test will be handled 100% manually, without any dependency on the current iteration of EdenOS smart contracts and its UX. Our volunteers will be facilitating the election process and offering assistance during the event.

For this alpha test, we would like to invite 100 or more participants to participate in a live practice of the political playoff and provide direct feedback following the event. To give us a better idea of how the event will actually work when the Eden Community holds its first official election, we are offering 1000 EOS to the winner.

This will hopefully encourage everyone to take things seriously and help us to better prepare for future elections. The 1000 EOS is awarded in the same spirit as we expect to see during an official election. We expect the winner will use the EOS in what they feel is the best interest of the Eden community and the greater EOS community.

Definition of Terms:

EdenOS - Is the “operating system” in development to support the process of Dan Larimer’s version of fractal democracy. For more information on Dan’s vision, please visit: www.moreequalanimals.com The software and other infrastructure will be open source and available to anyone wishing to start their own community using the processes created by the EdenOS team.

Eden Community - Is the community forming around the ideas of Dan’s fractal democracy innovations. It has started with various members of the greater EOS Main Net community and we hope will expand to the whole of the eosio user community and eventually throughout the blockchain ecosystem.

If you’re ready to register for the event and join us, please follow the steps below!

Step 1 - Register

Step 2 - Join the Telegram channel via invite link

  • After your initial registration, you will be invited to the official telegram channel for the practice election event.

Step 3 - Join the Event via the official Zoom Link

Here’s how the election will work:

  • Participants will join the Zoom call at 13:45 UTC on Thursday, May 13th for approximately 1.5 hours.
    • We really need everyone to arrive at least 15 minutes early for this so we can start the election on time at 14:00 UTC
    • The host/moderator will give you a brief orientation of what the process will look like and randomly assign participants into break-out groups of 10 people.
  • Once you are assigned to your group, each of the groups will be given one hour to have free discussion and to elect one representative in accordance with the political playoff consensus process.
  • The group’s elected representative must have at least ⅔ +1 of the group’s members voting for them.
    • In a group of 10, this means at least 8 members agree on the same candidate to represent their group in the next round of the playoffs.
    • In a group smaller than 10, we simply apply the ⅔+1 formula to determine the number of votes needed to reach consensus.
      • For example: group size is 7 members total. The number of votes need to reach consensus is (7 * ⅔ + 1 = 6)
        • We round off the number reached in calculating the ⅔ figure. In this case it was 4.666 so that becomes “5”.
  • Each group will have an assigned volunteer to assist with any potential issues, to document the event, take notes to help us improve and be sure to have a recording of the entire process.
    • This person will be instructed to not interfere with the process in any manner. Please let us know if you believe any volunteer has stepped over this boundary at the end of your election round.
  • At the end of the 1 hour time limit, participants must officially log their vote in the designated Telegram channel:
    • Once we have officially tallied the votes in the Telegram channel, we’ll ask the elected representatives to remain in the main zoom room.
  • Winners must have a recording to legitimize their win and provide backup documentation of the election process.
    • Therefore we encourage everyone to record the event and then delete it if you’re not elected.
  • Elected 1st level representatives are then randomly assigned to group(s) following the same procedure from the first round.
  • This process recursively continues until there’s only one group of elected representatives who will then reach consensus on the final elected representative.
    • For example, If there’s less than 100 participants there will only be 2 rounds. If there’s between 101 and 1,000 participants, there will be 3 rounds, and so on and so forth.
  • If a group fails to reach the ⅔ +1 consensus, then no one is elected to represent that group in the next round.
  • The final representative will be awarded a 1,000 EOS grant to use in the best interests of the community as they see fit.

Notes:

  • We want everyone’s feedback after the event to help us improve the process for future elections. Please fill out our post election feedback form. We’ll post the link for everyone as a pinned message in the official telegram channel.
  • We will be closing registration for the event on Tuesday, May 11th at 23:59 UTC. This is required to give us time to ensure we’re ready and prepared for the event. We have a small team and we don’t have the capacity to manage last minute registrations.
